ISLAMABAD – As many as 2,524 students of various campuses of Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) received their graduate and post-graduate degrees at the 46th convocation ceremony held at Convention Centre on Monday.

The students were awarded degrees in different ceremonies at six other campuses including Abbottbad, Wah, Lahore, Attock, Sahiwal and Vehari who secured BS, MS, MBA and PhD degrees in disciplines of Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics, Biosciences, Business Administration, Computer Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Electronics, Mathematics and Architecture. These all campuses were linked through video conferencing and few common ceremonies were conducted at the convocation.

More than 729 students obtained degrees from Islamabad Campus. In Islamabad campus there were more than 377 students who secured BS degrees, 165 Students secured degrees in MBA and 31 students in RBA. MS degrees were awarded to 72 students in Faculty of Sciences, 04 students in Faculty of IS & T (Computer Sciences and HI), 35 students in Faculty of Business Administration, 29 Students in Faculty of Engineering .PhD degrees were awarded to 12 students in Faculty of Sciences (Physics, Bio Sciences and Mathematics), 03 students in Faculty of IS & T and 01 student in faculty of business administration.

On the occasion Chancellor’s, Institute and Campus Medals were also awarded to position holding students from different campuses of CIIT. Graduate and post graduate students bagged Campus medals, Institute medals and Chancellor’s Gold medals with 3.96 CGPA.  CIIT announced Dr QK Ghori award for the best performer in Mathematics, this semester award was given to Sanna Mehmood Noor while Prof. Kausar Bashir Ahmed award was given to Midhat un Nisa for best final project in Architecture.  The Chancellor’s Gold medalists included Ammarah Younus, Muhammad Ehsan Javaid, Shazia Raj, Abrar Ahmed, Naqqash Aman, Rizwan Ahmed, Ayesha Amjed Qaisrani, Umair Islam, Samreen Abdul Hakeem, Azhar Abbas, Bilal Jehanzeb, Mohsin Tariq, Farya Tanvir, Saadia Maqbool and Sanna Mehmood Noor for 46th convocation of CIIT.

Rector CIIT Dr SM Junaid Zaidi (SI) awarded the degrees and medals to the students. Addressing the gathering said that ‘knowledge acquirement and higher education are transforming virtually every aspect of today’s world. IT institutions have been trusted to be the center stage of academia. These Institutions have the mandate to evolve a knowledge based socioeconomic culture in the country to help the nation to face the modern challenges of globalisation’.

CIIT established in 1998, is one of the fast growing research based institutions in Pakistan with a wide range of academic programs, ranging from basic sciences to cutting edge emerging technologies and a network of inter-disciplinary research centres, making it an ideal place for higher studies leading to Ms and PhD degrees, he added.
