LAHORE (PR) - Pakistan Workers Confederation presented 10 points agenda for prevention of accidents and occupational diseases of the workers and promotion of ‘Safer Work Culture’ at workplaces.

These proposals had been presented to the federal and provincial governments by Confederation’s General Secretary Khurshid Ahmad on Monday. It was urged to the government to get complied their legal compliance of mandatory safety and health laws including the Factories Act, 1934 and also fulfill their international obligations undertaken by ratifying the ILO Convention No 81 for establishing “Independent Labour Inspection Machinery.” He said the recent inferno had taken place in Lahore and Karachi factories causing tragic deaths of more than of 300 workers including women because of flagrant violation of mandatory provisions of the Factories Act, 1934.  Absence of observance of safety and health and other labour laws had been adding fuel to fire to cause tragic accidents.
