CAP receives 84,000 forms

KARACHI - Centralised Admission Policy (CAP) committee 2011 has issued the placement lists of Pre-Engineering (male) and Computer Science (male & female) under the CAP 2012 in connection with the admissions in class XI in government colleges of Karachi. Prof Dr Nasir Ansar, chairman of the CAP Committee-2012 and Director General Colleges, Sindh, issued the list, while speaking at a press conference, held on Monday at Government College for Women. Members of CAP Committee, Prof. Afzal Ansari and Naveed Zubairi, Advisor on Educaiton to Sindh Education Minsiter Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq were also present on the occasion,.He said that as many as 96,000 placement forms were sold, while 84,000 forms were received this year, which was the highest numbers as compared to previous years. Last year, 80,500 forms had been received, while 77,000 forms were received in 2010 and 78,500 in 2009, he added.Giving details about the admissions in computer faculty, he said that as many as 1791 forms were received in Computer Science (male) while 807 candidates were placed and 1,300 forms from female students were received while 698 candidates are placed due to limited seats. “Remaining candidates will be adjusted in Pre-Engineering and other faculties. In computer science, closing marks are 572 and 606 in male and female respectively. Merit has gone up this year in computer science. In the said faculty, this year the highest closing marks are 673 at Adamjee Government Science College, which was 660 last year. The lowest closing marks are 633 at Government College for Women, Nazimabad, while this was 615 last year at the same college,” he said. On account of admissions in Pre-Engineering, he said that as many as 17,211 candidates were placed in Pre-Engineering (male), while more than 17,900 applications were received, remaining candidates will be adjusted in other faculties.He said, “Last year 16,057 candidates were placed. This year, the minimum cut off marks are 425 (50 per cent, C-grade) in the Pre-Engineering (male), as per policy. Merit has gone up in the following colleges this year in Pre-Engineering: Adamjee Government Science College, Government PECHS Foundation Science College, Government Degree College, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Government Degree College Stadium Road, DJ Sindh Government Science College, Government Degree College Malir Cantt, Government Dehli College and Government College for Men Nazimabad.”Dr Ansar advised all the candidates to complete their admissions in concerned colleges within seven days. “We do not want to put any extra burden on the candidates that is why no affidavit and files will be collected from the students at the time of admission; if any college is found receiving the affidavit and files/file covers, students may complain about their issues on this mailing address complaints@can.edu.nk of DO Colleges to be forwarded to the Secretary Education and other high ups.” “Monitoring teams are also being constituted in order to monitor admission process. No college will be allowed to accept in any case whatsoever more than Rs10 for an admission form. If a college offers to sell college prospectus, it should not be more than Rs25 to be submitted directly to the bank through vouchers. No cash dealing will be allowed in the colleges.”TECHNOLOGY TO BE USED TO HANDLE ATTENDANCE ISSUE: Speaking on the occasion, Naveed Zubairi, Advisor on Education to Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq, said that the government was planning to use modern technology to maintain attendance of the college students and teachers as well. He said that with the installation of this technology in various public colleges of the city, the attendance issue would soon be resolved.
