ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Law and Justice Farooq H. Naek held a meeting with Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to give final touches to their strategy regarding latter’s appearance before the Supreme Court in NRO Implementation case.

It was the consensus view of both the Federal Law Minister and Prime Minister that PPP would not show defiance and would submit their point of view before the court remaining within the ambit of law and Constitution.

Sources aware of the deliberations of the meeting informed The Nation that Farooq H. Naek made it clear to the Prime Minister that it would be quite difficult to buy more time from the court and once again reiterated that the government should write letter to the Swiss authorities withdrawing the earlier letter through which the request for closure of graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari and others was made.

One of the options, which came under discussion in the meeting, was to invoke Article 248 of the Constitution wherein the President of the country was immune to any sort of criminal proceedings against him in the country or abroad. Though final decision on the government’s strategy was left for the heads of coalition partners meeting scheduled in Presidency but it was the decision of the PPP to appear before the court and not to enter into any sort of acrimony with the apex court.

Later, Deputy Prime Minister and central leader of PML-Q Ch. Pervaiz Elahi also had a separate meeting with Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and he too advised him not to enter into any sort of friction with superior judiciary and try to carve out some middle course to break the impasse.

Sources aware of the deliberations of the meeting informed The Nation that as usual PML-Q leader said that confrontation with superior judiciary would not be in favour of anyone and suggested him not only to appear before the Supreme Court but would try to look for some out of box solution to the prevailing stalemate.

Meanwhile, according to the Press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Media Wing Ch. Pervaiz Elahi discussed overall political situation in the country with the Prime Minister.
