PESS flays dillydallying in embezzlement of mutation fee

MANDI BAHAUDDIN - Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society (PESS) Kissan Wing President Major (r) Bashir Ahmed has alleged that revenue officials including the presiding officers of revenue courts are corrupt. He was presiding over a meeting of the PESS Kissan Wing held here to discuss difficulties being faced by farmers in the revenue office, the other day. He claimed that the revenue officials were fleecing the public with alleged impunity. On the other hand Patwaris have left their responsibilities and opened their own patwrkhanas in rented houses to keep continue their malpractice. They were of the view that the Patwaris update entries in the revenue record without visiting the spot, adding that justice was being auctioned overtly in Revenue Courts. The PEES Kissan Wing president pointed out that last year a resident of Dhoke Kasib filed a writ petition in Lahore High Court against alleged embezzled of huge amounts of mutation fee in addition to fleecing land holders in the name execution of mutations. The writ petition was accepted and on the order of the High Court, Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) registered case against not less than 135 revenue officials including 85 Patwaris, he informed.He said despite the court orders, the ACE had not arrested the accused so far. The meeting condemned the ACE for showing leniency with the accused and urged the Punjab chief minister to direct the Anti-Corruption Establishment Gujranwala to arrest the accused forthwith.The meeting decided postponement of the ex-servicemen protest for one week to give time to the ACE for the arrest the accused. The meeting was attended by PESS Tehsil office-bearers including its Phalia President Sher Muhammad Tarar, UC Sohawa Diloana president Capt (r) Amin, the Chief Petty Officer, the Mandi Tehsil Secretary, CWO Abdul Gani Gujjar and Chief Petty officer Aslam.
