ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has failed to reopen the swimming pool despite the lapse of three months. Director General Syed Amir Hamza Gilani had made several promises of opening the swimming pool and had given different dates for this purpose, but swimming pool is still not opened for the general public or members.
When this correspondent contacted director swimming pool Saeed Ahmed to seek reasons behind not opening of the pool despite the renovation/maintenance work is long completed, Saeed said: “We had came to know through newspapers that Capital Development Authority (CDA) has issued instructions to all the private and government-run swimming pools to remain shut down for further 10 days due to dengue threat. However he conceded that they did not receive any written instructions in this regard. On contrary other privately-run swimming pools in the capital are operating and they were not even contacted by CDA or any other health department official. Inside sources have confirmed that swimming pool is completely safe from all kinds of bacteria. “We sprayed vaccines, which not only prevent dengue but also has the capacity of fighting against 10 other water related diseases,” a source said.
PSB swimming pool is considered as one of the cheapest available place. DG PSB should take notice of this situation and not only order immediate reopening of the inner swimming pool, but outer swimming pool should also be reopened, which is shut down from several years.
