ISLAMABAD - Defending champions Army Red retained the National Taekwondo Championship 2015 title with whopping 26 gold medals on the concluding night at Pakistan Sports Complex’ newly-constructed building.

Army Red were in cruise control in the entire event, as their players showed their class and managed to win 26 gold, two silver and four bronze medals with total 734 points, while Wapda secured second position with two gold, 7 silver and 18 bronze medals with total 334 points and Army Green earned the third position with two gold, 10 silver and six bronze medals with total 310 points.

The closing ceremony was marked with taekwondo players showed their brilliant skills. Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF) president Lt Col (R) Waseem Ahmed Janjua must be given credit for single-handedly running the highly successful show. Federal Minister Shahid Khaqan Ababsi was the chief guest on the occasion, while South Korean Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Song Jong was guest of honor and Army Sports Board Director General Brig Ghulam Jiallani, PSB DG Dr Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera, DDG facilities Agha Amjedullah, assistant director hostels Malik Imtiaz Hussain along with others were also present there.

The hall was never filled to capacity in the past despite hosting international events, but taekwondo contest broke all the attendance records. Later, the chief guest gave away winning trophy to the Army Red captain and players.
