LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered a complete ban on the banned outfits for collecting animal hides.
Thursday’s order is part of the full-scale crackdown on the proscribed organisations, initiated in the backdrop of the brutal assassination of late Punjab home minister Shuja Khanzada last month.
The chief minister, while underscoring the need for stepping up efforts for speedy implementation of the National Action Plan, has directed the police and the law enforcement agencies for a direct action against the militancy in the province.
The CM, during a meeting yesterday, reviewed the law and order situation and the security arrangements on the occasion of Eidul Azha and the following by-elections. He directed the authorities to further tighten security on entry and exit routes of Punjab, especially Lahore.
“There will be a complete ban on collecting sacrificial hides by banned organizations,” Shahbaz Sharif told the meeting and directed the law enforcement agencies to ensure its strict implementation.
He also urged the police and other law enforcement agencies to discharge their duties diligently. Special attention should be paid to the security of mosques, Imambarghahas, worship and sensitive places, he directed.
“Complete monitoring of the security plan evolved for Eidul Azha should be carried out and senior police officers should personally supervise the steps taken for protection of life and property of the people,” the CM said and directed that comprehensive arrangements of security should be ensured in cattle markets.
He also directed his cabinet members to tour all over the province for reviewing security arrangements on Eid and on the occasion of by-elections due next month. Foolproof security should be provided to the candidates taking part in by-elections, he said.
The chief minister also ordered the authorities to ensure the implementation on the ban on arms display. “Law is equal for us and it should take its course immediately in case of violation,” he said.
Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal, Khawaja Ahmed Hasaan, Inspector General Police, Home Secretary and other officials attended the meeting.
