Green Office Networks Meet

LAHORE – WWF-Pakistan has been tackling climate change impact through its Green Office program since 2009 by promoting and certifying the adoption of sustainable environment practices at offices in the corporate sector. In this regard, WWF-Pakistan organized its third annual Green Office Network Meeting in Lahore on September 10. The theme of the meeting this year was sustainable waste management. The aim of the annual event is to gather companies at one platform and give them an insight to minimize their environmental footprint by educating their employees.

"Hammad Naqi Khan, Director General, WWF-Pakistan, spoke on the occasion "We intend to focus on further collaborations with the corporate sector on environmental sustainability and to help them strengthen their Corporate social responsibility in the context of sustainable development to improve their performance and accountability in these areas." Nazifa Butt, Manager Green Office Initiative & Environmental Assessment stated that  "We as WWF aim to reduce the ecological footprint of organizations and would like to expand our scope from offices to industrial carbon footprint."

Awards for innovation and various certificates of achievement in natural resource conservation were given to Mobilink Pakistan for developing MobiRide (green travels app), Engro Fertilizers and Corporation for Ariba (paperless procurement software) and Tripda (green travels app) and Yunus Textile Mills Limited for green air conditioning. Certificates were awarded to Sukkur IBA, Engro Foods Limited and Engro Polymers head office for reduction in waste generation by 18, 41 and 8 percent in 2013-2014 amongst the green network corporations.
