LAHORE - The Lahore High Court has summoned the parties today who have challenged the acceptance of nomination papers of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Abdul Aleem Khan for NA-122 by-election.

An LHC appellate bench Thursday issued notices to the petitioners including the PAT’s candidate for NA-122, Advocate Ishtiaq Chaudhry, PJP’s candidate Advocate Malik Munsif Awan and Advocate Talha.

They had filed appeals against the decision of the returning officer wherein nomination papers of de-seated NA speaker Ayaz Sadiq and PTI’s candidate Abdul Aleem Khan.

In their separate appeals, the lawyers stated that an election tribunal disqualified Ayaz Sadiq and imposed a Rs2.5 million penalty on him besides ordering by-election in the NA-122. They argued the conviction by the tribunal was still valid and was not suspended by the Supreme Court.

Against Aleem Khan, the appellants said, a number of cases are pending in different courts on charges of land grabbing. They said the objections were raised before the returning officer at the time of filing of nomination papers. However, they said, the RO did not take any action.

They prayed the court to set aside the decision of the RO for being unlawful.

A returning officer had accepted the nomination papers of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq of PML-N and Abdul Aleem Khan of PTI for by-election of NA-122.

The RO also completed scrutiny of the nomination papers of the candidates of NA-122.
