PESHAWAR - Tribal leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have supported the 22nd Constitutional Amendment Bill, moved for merging FATA into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

While speaking a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, PTI FATA chapter leader, Iqbal Afridi said the tribal people were deprived of all constitutional rights, due to Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) in FATA. “We want abolishment of the century-old draconian FCR in FATA, which is against basic human rights,” he demanded. He said FATA has been deliberately kept backward in all fields, wherein tribesmen were not provided with basic facilities, like education, health and others.

He appreciated the FATA elected representatives for moving the 22nd constitutional Amendment Bill in parliament, aimed to merge FATA into the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Flanked by Dr Jalil, Muhammad Saleem, Syed Ahmad Khan and others, he said that they will accept merger or separate province but will never accept any further pretext in this regard.

He viewed that tribal people had rendered countless sacrifices for protection of their motherland, despite the fact that they still face miseries due imposition of colonial law in FATA.

“The merge of FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or to give it a status of separate entity is an imperative now,” Afridi said. He alleged that there were some elements, who wanted to keep the tribal people backward forever.

They are creating impediments in way of hope for merging the region into KP province, he observed.

However, he said the time has come to annul the draconian law FCR by merging FATA into the province.

In reply to a query, Haji Iqbal said they were ready to launch a campaign aimed to support the parliamentarians in this connection and in case, the elected people fails in their mission, the protest will be held against them.
