LAHORE - An eyewitness of Model Town clash yesterday demanded trial of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and others allegedly involved in killing of 14 people outside Minhajul Quran secretariat.

Mian Mumtaz, a neighbour of Dr Tahirul Qadri put this demand before an anti-terrorism court. In his testimony, the witness said that the then DIG Operations, Rana Abdul Jabbar, had instructed police personnel to open indiscriminate fire on Minhaj women who had made a human-chain outside the residence of Dr Qadri.

Mumtaz stated that a policeman, who was later identified as Abid Hussain, fired on the women workers. According to his statement, Tanzeela Amjad died on the spot after receiving a bullet in her face while several other women were injured during the police firing.

Mumtaz told the court that he saw two more police constables carrying out firing on the protestors.

After recording his statement, the court sought arguments from the prosecution on the challan submitted by the police in the case. The court adjourned further hearing until April 22.

At least 14 people were killed and about 100 got injured when Lahore police attacked on Model Town incident over an issue of removing barriers leading to Minhajul Quran Secretariat.
