Hazara shopkeeper shot dead in Quetta

QUETTA - Another person belonging to Hazara community was shot dead by unidentified armed men at Abdul Sattar Road here on Wednesday.

Police chief Abdur Razzaq Cheema said gunmen riding on a motorcycle opened fire at an auto parts shop on Abdul Sattar Road, killing the shopkeeper on the spot. Cheema said the shopkeeper was from the Hazara community and that it appeared to have been a targeted killing.

The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Quetta by the rescue team where the deceased was identified as 50-year-old Muhammad Asif, son of Ghulam Nabi. He was a resident of Alamdar Road.

City police station SHO Malik Murad said the attackers managed to flee from the scene after the incident. He said that the deceased was a member of the Hazara community.  Police surgeon Dr Ali Imran said that the victim was hit by five bullets in the neck, chest and arm.

SHO Murad said the incident seemed to be result of a targeted killing and the police are looking into the matter.

According to witnesses, two unidentified men carried out the attack and fled on their motorcycle. Police officials said a 9mm pistol was used in the attack.

Law enforcers have cordoned off the area and started investigation. It was the fourth attack in recent months targeting the Shiite minority. No one has claimed the attacks, but they bear the hallmarks of Sunni extremists.
