President directs Punjab Governor to continue work

ISLAMABAD   -  The political crisis in Punjab has further deepened as President Arif Alvi has directed Umer Sarfraz Cheema to continue performing his responsibilities as Punjab Governor.


The President held the summary sent by the Prime Minister for removing the Punjab Governor and directed Cheema to continue working as Governor till further orders.


Governor Cheema meanwhile has refused to administer oath to the newly elected Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz. Hamza Shahbaz was scheduled to take oath on Monday but now has been further delayed due to the refusal by the Governor.


Punjab is without a chief minister for the past two weeks. The Punjab Assembly session was delayed to elect chief minister, but finally elected chief minister on 16th April amid uproar.
