LAHORE - Supporting continuation of the devolution plan, former chairman National Reconstruction Bureau Daniyal Aziz has said that democracy is incomplete without the local government system. Addressing a local government convention held here on Wednesday, he announced to launch countrywide campaign against delay in local government elections and appointment of administrators during Ramazan. Local Councils Association organised the event, which was attended by local bodies representatives from across the country. District Nazim Haripur Yousaf Ayoub, District Nazim Quetta Mehr Maqbool Lehri, District Naib Nazim Loralai Aziz Phathan, District Nazim Qila Abduallah Haji Adam Khan, District Nazim Sakhar Nasir Hussian Shah, Maulvi Kamal-ud-Din District Nazim Pasheen, Tehsil Nazim Dasht Madad Khan, Tehsil Nazim Sawabi Shah Room Khan and Naib District Nazim Mir Iqbal Zahri also addressed the convention. Daniyal Aziz vowed to continue campaign for protecting the existing local government system, saying that no one would be allowed to wrap up the system that has provided relief to masses. He said it was a pity that the high-ups were not ready to listen to the stakeholders. He said that the political parties opposing the continuation of local government system would have to face disorder in their own ranks as their workers were in close contact with the stakeholders. He said they had announced a parallel CoD to save the system, as the democracy in Pakistan was incomplete without local bodies system. He said that all such members of national and provincial assemblies who were opposing that system should keep in mind that they would not get a single vote in the next elections. Stressing upon the judiciary to take notice of wrapping up the LG system, he said it was a time for courts to prove their independence. Earlier, the speakers were of the view that some political parties were not ready to continue the system as their members wanted to utilise the LG funds at their own. They were of the view that unprecedented development works were carried out during the last eight years only due to the present local government system. They demanded withdrawal of the decision regarding appointment of administrators and early holding of LG elections.
