KARACHI (PPI) - Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah Tuesday ordered releasing salary funds for the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) for the months of July and August 2009. As per details, a high-level meeting presided over by the Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah was held in the Chief Minister House here to discuss the important matters related to the CDGK, particularly the complaints regarding stoppage of funds. Sindh minister for local government Agha Siraj Durrani, city nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal, additional chief secretary (development) Nazar Hussain Mahar, provincial secretary finance Fazalullah Pechoho, secretary local government Fazalur Rehman, DCO Karachi Javed Hanif and other senior officers attended the meeting, which discussed the matters related to the city government, threadbare, in an open and candid atmosphere. City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal complained that the provincial government was not releasing the funds of CDGK. He said due to stoppage of funds, the CDGK employees could not get their salaries of July and August. CM Qaim Ali Shah asked the provincial finance department to release the salary fund at the earliest, so that the CDGK employees could get their outstanding salaries. Regarding stoppage of other funds of the CDGK, he asked the finance department to reconcile the fund-release data provided by the CDGK with the provincial government figures, and if any stoppage of funds detected, the same should be released soon. Regarding the matter of 17 housing schemes near the Northern Bypass, the CM advised the city nazim to write a formal letter to the competent authority, i.e., the Sindh chief minister, in this regard, adding he would convene a high-level meeting in this connection, in which the senior member Board of Revenue (BoR) and member Land Utilisation (LU) would also be invited to finalize the matter. Syed Qaim Ali Shah said Karachi is not only the capital city of Sindh province, but also a hub of national economy and industry. He said due to this importance of Karachi, both provincial and federal governments are taking all-out steps for the progress and development of this city. He said the government has already okayed a Rs20billion uplift package for Karachi, adding Rs7billion for this uplift package would be contributed by the federal government, while the Sindh government would foot remaining Rsw13billion. The meeting was further told that the Sindh government has also earmarked Rs2billion for the uplift projects of CDGK. It was further told that the City Council has also sent Rs4billion uplift schemes for approval. Sindh chief minister asked the city nazim to send him his prioritized schemes in this regard.
