CIAs brash footprint in Pakistan

Michael Kugelmans article We are not all CIA Agents appropriately underscores the worry of Pakistanis when they view all burly looking Americans, speeding around in their bullet proof vehicles and taking offence at being checked for identity by the police check points in the image of Raymond Davis; the infamous CIA contractor who killed two Pakistanis in broad day light and managed to walk out a free man. Even President Obama lost his credibility with the Pakistani public for calling this proven CIA contractor as our diplomat in Islamabad. US NGOs operators, proclaiming to engage in social uplift projects in Pakistan have been discredited because of the CIAs proclivity to use them abashedly for espionage and clandestine purposes. CIA caper of using Hepatitis immunization program in Abbotabad to snoop around has struck deeply at the credibility of US sponsored welfare projects; landing a mortal blow upon to the authenticity of the immunization programs in Pakistan with catastrophic effects. Who can blame Pakistanis for suspecting foul play behind the faade of social development work undertaken by US NGOs when the brashness of the CIA footprint has emerged so convincingly to drown out any good impact made by these social uplift schemes? Human heart, any where in the world even in Pakistan, has the power to feel the compassion and selflessness of a helping hand; it also has the alertness to detect treachery and deceit. If the American largesse has failed to make a benign impact in Pakistan, the Americans themselves have to dig deep in their collective soul and weigh the consequences of exploiting the human misery in order to promote their intelligence interests.
