ISLAMABAD - PML-Q President Ch Shujaat Hussain and Punjab chapter President Ch Pervaiz Elahi on Monday refused to hold talks with the government unless Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif resigned.
“Talks with the government are out of question, negotiations will only be held now on the ground. We are not meeting any of the government’s negotiating committees till the prime minister’s resignation,” PML-Q leaders Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi told reporters in Islamabad.
The PML-Q leadership is backing Dr Tahirul Qadri’s anti-government protest which has been underway in Islamabad since late Friday, demanding the PM’s resignation and installation of an interim national government.
Qadri gave a 48-hour deadline to the government on Saturday, leading thousands of his followers alongside Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan who announced civil disobedience against the government.
PTI and PAT supporters continued their protest for the fifth consecutive day on Monday.
