LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Sardar Usman Buzdar has been elected as the chief minister of Punjab on Sunday.
Sardar Usman secured 186 votes, while his opponent Hamza Shahbaz of PML-N secured 159 votes.
PTI has nominated Sardar Usman Ahmed Khan Buzdar, while Hamza Shahbaz was the candidate of PML-N for the 20th chief minister of Punjab.
The PTI has emerged as the majority party in Punjab after 2018 general elections and boasts a decisive
majority of 188 members with the allies including Pakistan Muslim League (Q). The PML-N has 159 members in the Punjab Assembly.
Yesterday, PM Imran Khan reposed his confidence in Usman Buzdar for the post of CM Punjab via a video message.
He said Usman belonged to the most impoverished area of Punjab and he made this decision after due diligence.
Sardar Usman Ahmad Khan Buzdar has been a member of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab since August 2018.
He was born in May 1969 in Dera Ghazi Khan. He received his early education from Government Boys Primary School in Barthi, Punjab. He has a masters degree in from Bahauddin Zakariya University and received a degree of bachelor of laws from the Law College, Multan.
Prior to 2013 general elections he joined PML-N and ran for the seat of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab as a candidate of PML-N from PP-241 constituency of Dera Ghazi Khan-II, but was unsuccessful.
Sardar Usman joined Janoobi Punjab Suba Mahaz prior to the 2018 general election. Janoobi Punjab Suba Mahaz merged with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in May 2018.
