PPP to air documentary on BB's achievements

KARACHI - To counter the growing religious extremism in the country, PPP has planned to circulate the speeches of Shaheed Chairperson Benazir Bhutto on the eve of her first death anniversary to be observed on 27th December. Well-placed sources told The Nation on Thursday that the Benazir Bhutto chair at ZABIST has made a documentary containing speeches and lectures of Benazir Bhutto she had delivered at various international universities and seminars. The said documentary will be displayed for the central gathering of the death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto and will also be distributed among party office-bearers, activists and other people present on the occasion at Garhi Khuda Bakash. The PPP leadership wants to address the menace of religious extremism in the country through utilising widespread popularity and reverence of Benazir Bhutto, the sources said. They added the party had planned to display videos containing the speeches of Benazir Bhutto throughout the country to utilise the affiliation of the masses with her. The martyred PPP chairperson, during her election campaign in 2007, had openly termed the religious extremists as the greatest threat to the integrity of Pakistan. Talking to The Nation, Archives Department Manager Benazir Bhutto Chair at the SZABIST, Nusrat Lashari, said that his office had compiled the lectures and speeches of former PPP chairperson, which would be released on her first death anniversary. She added that a documentary made on BB's life and her achievements would also be aired on this occasion. Lashari added the Benazir Bhutto Chair had also decided to publish books on the political struggle of the martyred PPP leader. She continued that Benazir Bhutto's lectures on religious extremism would also be aired on her first death anniversary.
