LAHORE – Right-handed opening batsmen Abid Ali has earned sixth position in the Grade-I President’s Cup played at the various grounds across the country and now he is hopeful of his selection in one of the two outfits of Lahore Region for participation in the upcoming President’s Trophy Grade-I event.

Abid represented United Bank Limited (UBL) in the Pakistan premier tournament and scored 597 runs including one century and four half centuries. Though UBL failed to qualify for the final, yet the opener delivered and performed well and tried his best to stop his team’s ouster from the mega event. He also kept wickets in the one of the match of trophy due to injury to regular keeper.

Hailing from Lahore, the opener plays from Shafqat Rana Cricket Club and played so many knocks in his team’s victory. He represented Pakistan in the U-19 World Cup in 2004 and given chance in just a single match and could not prove his mettle due to international cricket pressure.

The 24-year-old also toured Sri Lanka, Dubai and West Indies with Pakistan A team just like a tourists as he looked player in action sitting at bench.

President’s Trophy Grade-I is going to start in near future in which five players of departments will be inducted in the regional squads. He is eyeing his entry from any one of the Lahore Region team to show his credentials in the tournament.
