QUETTA - Polio campaign which was scheduled to be started from December 24th to 26th in Pishin, Killa Abdullah and Quetta, the high risk areas of northern Balochistan, has been postponed on Tuesday for security reasons. An official of World Health Organisation (WHO) in Pakistan Muhammedi Muhammad confirmed that the polio campaign in high-risk areas of Balochistan had been postponed. He said that the decision was taken by provincial polio control centre at Chief Secretary’s office.  The campaign had been postponed due to the targeted killings of the polio workers in Karachi and KPK where five female polio workers were gunned down in a single day. It may be mentioned here that Balochistan is a high risk area of polio where majority of polio cases has been reported in the past. According to the UNICEF sources around 15 polio cases were reported in these three districts which are highest numbers in 2012 in Pakistan.
