SIALKOT - Germany Ambassador in Pakistan Dr Cyrill Nunn has assured to make all out sincere efforts to ensure easy access of Sialkot-based exporters to European Union (EU) markets, besides, removing all hurdles to enable them explore and capture the EU and German markets.

He made the assurance while addressing an important meeting of Sialkot exporters held here at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Tuesday.

He said that the Germany was in favour of granting the EU trade facilities to Pakistan and pledged that the Germany would support Pakistan at every international forum for the purpose.

He was of the view that access to the EU markets and German markets was the right of Pakistan and Germany would prove to be a gateway to EU markets for Pakistan.

He disclosed that there was 10 percent increase in bilateral trade between Germany and Pakistan during the current year. Dr Cyrill Nunn said that both Pakistan and Germany had been enjoying friendly and cordial trade relations and the time was ripe to further strengthen these mutual trade ties.

The German Ambassador also announced that there will be a big investment in Pakistan by different Germany companies in the coming months as several companies had shown keen interest to invest in different fields, especially in energy sector.

He said that the several Germany companies were ready to establish joint ventures with Sialkot business community in different trade fields and they will soon reach Sialkot for launching several joint ventures in Sialkot.

He said that the Germany intended to have developed and strengthened mutual trade relations with Pakistan, saying that the Germany would ensure easy access of Sialkot exporters to EU and German markets.

Dr Cyrill Nunn pointed out that Germany was the largest economy in Europe and it had been a driver and beneficiary of globalized economy. Germany is the world’s third largest exporter with US $1.408 trillion exported in 2011.

Germany is the 4th largest trading partner of Pakistan.

He informed the participants of the meeting that German companies were showing keen interest in Pakistani market, especially in the energy and infrastructure sectors, which was encouraging and positive sign for Pakistan’s economy.

On the occasion, the Sialkot exporters emphasized that both the countries must strengthen economic relations, through facilitation of governments and close coordination of private sectors.

Sialkot exporters also thanked Germany for its assistance for both Afghan refugees in Pakistan and internally displaced Pakistanis.

The meeting was further told that Pakistan was pursuing a free trade agreement with EU and hope that negotiations for Free Trade Agreement will start soon. The meeting sought all possible support by Germany for maturity of FTA with EU.

German market has big demand for the items produced in Sialkot.  There is a great potential for establishing joint ventures and business cooperation between German and Sialkot based companies especially in the fields of Sports Goods, Surgical Instruments and Leather Products.

It was suggested that to improve trading relations it was essential that visa facility for the Sialkot businessmen be made easy.

The Sialkot chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) also sought German Embassy’s active cooperation to encourage Lufthansa Airline to operate passenger and cargo flights between Sialkot and Germany, which surely would be a profitable commercial venture.
