LAHORE - Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Ameer and former MNA Muhammad Hussain Mehnati has said that the law and order situation in the port city has deteriorated to horrific proportions and people are being massacred daily.

Speaking at Aiwan-e-Waqt on Tuesday, he said extortion, kidnapping for ransom and target killings was on the rise. Ex-MPA Nasrullah Shujaah, Naib Ameer JI Karachi Hafiz Naeemur Rahman and Dr Wasih Shakir were also present. They also called on Editor-in-Chief TheNation Majid Nizami at his office.  Mehnati said members and workers of various political parties were being targeted daily to flare up sectarian and linguistic violence while all this had been happening since 1986 when the MQM came into existence, depriving the city of its calm and peace.

A large number of innocent people were bombed out in Karachi attacks, but neither there had been any investigation nor the police had been able to find any killer, he added.

He said after the MQM, the PPP and the ANP too have developed a flair for bloodletting and loot and plunder. He further lamented that the reason why the situation was failing to come to normal was because of incorrect voters’ lists, which have made free and fair polls almost impossible.

“Polling stations are being captured at gunpoint, and with the help of what he called ‘Stamp Mafia’, the MQM vanquishes the mandate of Karachi. Until and unless transparent polls are held, there will be no peace in Karachi,” he proclaimed. He called for the implementation of Supreme Court’s historical decision on the voters’ lists and delimitation of constituencies in letter and spirit.

He lamented that the MQM used a contemptuous language against the judiciary as well as the chief justice. He challenged Altaf Hussain that if he had respect for the law and judiciary, he should come in person to face the contempt of court case.

He further announced the JI would be host to an All Parties Conference held under the auspices of the Difa-e-Pakistan Council in Karachi on December 27.
