KARACHI - Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said that inspite of limitations, the needs of higher educational institutions particularly the universities will be fulfilled. He also constituted a committee headed by Sindh finance minister to ascertain the demands, needs and requirements of the Sindh universities.He was chairing a meeting of vice chancellors of the Sindh universities having certain issues and financial problems held at the CM House, where VCs highlighted problems with reference to salary component of staff, funds for development projects, construction of departments and faculties and allocation for research in various sectors.Qaim said that according to decision of the CCI, the subjects transferred to provinces included Higher Education and the universities of respective provinces. “In first phase, the universities having some problems have been invited while the remaining universities will be invited in second phase.”He said that furtherance and promotion of education is objective of present elected government, while efforts are being made to pay full attention towards higher education. He added that the Sindh government has initiated to establish “Sindh Higher Education Commission” so as to resolve the problems of universities and centres of wxcellence engaged in promotion of knowledge latest technologies and educational development. Qaim added that inspite of various constraints; the provincial government has always provided facilities and incentives to educational institutions. He said that Punjab has already formed the HEC and Sindh has also initiated in right direction. He also chaired anther meeting of health, education, finance, planning and development officers at the CM House. The meeting reviewed the progress on the establishment of LUMHS Medical College which will be constructed at Khairpur.He said that development of education and health sector were the top priority of the present democratic government and various projects of schools, colleges and hospital buildings had been completed. The chief minister directed the Finance Department to release necessary funds for construction of the campus on urgent basis.
