Young docs resume duties

LAHORE - The Young Doctors Association (YDA) on Sunday ended their nine-day long strike in Punjab after their successful negotiations with the provincial government.

The YDA announced that the government assured them of doubling the seats in post graduation and also that the medics working in rural areas will be provided residences and additional allowances. The protesting doctors declared to resume their duties today.

Hundreds of doctors were on protest in different cities of Punjab for more than a week over the central induction policy and reservations on employment criteria.

The Outdoor Patient Departments (OPD) remained shut during their agitation, leaving patients and their relatives in lurch. The Indoor patient Departments (IPD) and emergencies, however, remained functional during the YDA strike.

The government at last took notice of the protest and assured the YDA that their demands will be addressed according to law. The association said that the government would soon issue a written notification in this regard.
