7m kids to be vaccinated as anti-polio swoop begins

MULTAN-At least seven million children below the age of five years will be vaccinated against polio in eight districts of the province as the Punjab Health Department kicked off a five-day polio eradication drive on Monday.
The Sehat Muhafiz Polio Eradication teams of the Health Department would go door to door in Multan, DG Khan, Lahore, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rawalpindi, RY Khan and Sheikhupura during the campaign and administer vaccine to the kids to prevent them from the crippling virus.
In Multan, over eight lac children will be vaccinated during the campaign. The local health authorities urged upon the parents to cooperate with the teams and get their kids vaccinated. They added that over 1500 mobile teams would go door to door besides the deployment of other teams at all hospitals, rural health centres, basic health units, dispensaries, airport and railway station.

Three held with 6kg hashish at motorway


SARGODHA-Police foiled a drug trafficking bid by seizing 6kg of hashish and arrested three traffickers. A police team during snap checking at Motorway Salam Interchange seized 6kg of Charas from hidden parts of a car bearing Registration No AAM/541 Sindh XE. Police arrested three accused persons identified as Mohammad Sabir, Faqeer Jan and Asia Gull along with her minor baby Zunaira (2). Police informed that the accused used to travelling along with women and children to deceive lawmen.

Cops asked to tighten security

GUJRANWALA: Police officers were asked to tighten security across Gujranwala division by setting up special check-posts on exit and entry points of cities to avoid any untoward incident.
According to official sources, acting RPO Ashfaq Khan directed district police officers of all districts of Gujranwala division to enhance patrolling in their jurisdiction. He also ordered them to comb hotels and restaurants on daily basis and conduct search operations in adjoining areas of the churches. He said police officials are responsible for protecting lives and properties of citizens and no negligence in security matters will be tolerated.
