QUETTA-Unknown armed assailants gunned down renowned scholar and leader of JUP (Noorani) Allama Iftikhar Habibi at Mannu Jan Road here on Wednesday. According to police, Allama Iftikhar Habibi was coming out of his house in a vehicle, as he reached Ahmad Shah Street Mannu Jan Road, unknown armed assailants riding a motorbike opened indiscriminate firing at his vehicle. As a result, he received multiple injuries which resulted in his on the spot death. The assailants escaped from the site after committing the crime. Police and other law-enforcing agencies rushed to the site shortly after the incident. The body of deceased was shifted to Civil Hospital. Law enforcing agencies cordoned off the area and started checking for the culprits. The murder of Allama Iftikhar Habibi infuriated the people who gathered on Mannu Jan Road and erected barricades and burnt tyres to block the road. They pelted vehicles and shops with stones. They chanted slogans against govt and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. The activists of JUP (N) staged a protest demo infront of Quetta Press Club against killing of the scholar. Police arrested provincial Amir of JUP Balochistan Abdul Qudoos Sasoli and over 50 workers and leaders of party who had arrived at the Press Club to address the Press conference. Earlier, addressing a Press conference Qudoos Sasoli strongly condemned the killing of Maulana Iftikhar Ahmed Habibi and gave 72 hours ultimatum to the govt for arrest of his killers. He also gave a call for shutter-down strike for Thursday against the killing of JUP (N) leader.
