KARACHI - A woman threw acid on a man and injured him badly after he had declined to marry her, here on Wednesday. Salma Ansari (30), a resident of Sector 9/E, Jinnah Colony, reached Orangi Town Police Station and confessed that she had thrown acid on Sarfarz (25) as he had refused to marry her after an affair spanning over seven years. Sarfraz was sitting in front of his residence along with his friends Arif and Sajid when Salma poured an acid-filled glass on him. As a result, he sustained severe burn injuries and was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Later, she was produced before the court where judicial magistrate Hafiz Ibrahim granted her bail against a surety of Rs 30,000. Police said that Salma was divorced some eleven years ago and had a daughter from her ex-husband. In her statement to the police, she said that Sarfraz, a friend of her brother, had pledged to marry her but was using delaying tactics for the last seven years instead of honouring his promise. Salma further stated that she had taken the extreme step in revenge as Sarfraz was planning to marry another girl. On the other hand, Sarfraz, a resident of Orangi Town, denied all the allegations levelled against him by the woman. In his statement to the police, Sarfraz said he had never promised Salma that he would marry her. "I always treated her as a friend. Whenever she tried to convince me for marriage, I told her that my family would not allow me to do so", he claimed. Sarfraz disclosed that a few days ago accused Salma had threatened that she would kill him or commit suicide in case he did not surrender to her desire. Police have registered a case against accused Salma.
