LAHORE – The Government College University (GCU) Syndicate approved the university’s new state of the art campus at Kala Shah Kaku and university is awaiting fund for its development, said Vice Chancellor Dr Khaleeq-ur-Rahman.

They had pinned all their hopes on the Punjab Chief Minister who had always supported the development, the VC said while talking to a delegation of Lahore Education Reporters Association on Monday.

Dr Rahman said the Government College Universityhad initiated 20 postgraduate programmes in last year including three PhD programmes and they had no space on the existing campus for new programmes.

He said Law, Mass Communication and Management Studies departments would be established at the new Government College University campus.

The VC said that he had not increased the fee for the last two years which was resulting into financial challenges for the university.

“But, I strongly believe that universities belong to students and they must be facilitated in all possible manners,” he added.

Prof Rahman also pledged that the Government College University would continue financial aid to its students.  The academic calendar of the GCU ensured widespread participation of its students in creative and extra-curricular activities which were essential for their character-building, he added.

He said that the Government College University academic calendar was designed with the single purpose of balancing out academic pursuits, sports and co-curricular activities without having compromised anyone of them.

He also emphasised on teachers training so that they could act role model for their students.
