ISLAMABAD – Keeping in view attacks on polio teams across the country in the recent past, Islamabad police on Monday decided to provide foolproof security to the teams operating in Islamabad capital territory.“Islamabad Police have ensured special security arrangements for the assistance of polio teams so that they can administer the polio drops without fear,” IGP Islamabad said on Monday inaugurating four-day polio eradication campaign.According to him, personnel of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) with an objective of friendly policing spent a hectic day on city roads by administering anti-polio drops to the children, besides marshalling traffic in the Capital.IGP Islamabad joined the vaccination point at McDonald Roundabout near F-10 and administered anti-polio drops among the children below five years. Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Dr Moeen Masood and SP (Traffic) Khalid Rasheed themselves participated in this campaign and joined the vaccination points established in various areas of the city. He said that ITP’s volunteers are helping to ensure the success of this campaign. It is to mention that polio checking points have been established at various points of the city. Bani Amin Khan urged the people to adopt precautionary measures to counter this disease which may paralyze a person for whole life. “Islamabad Police have joined hands with the Directorate of Health Services for the eradication of Polio. With the coordination of Director Health Services, special security arrangements have been made for the security and assistance of polio teams so that they can administer the polio drops without fear,” Bani Amin told journalists. Director Health DHS CDA informed that by the grace of Almighty Allah, the federal capital has been a polio-free city since 2008 as no such case has been detected during the period due to enhanced vigilance of the civic agency. On the occasion, Director Health appraised that for the forthcoming polio campaign, 9 high-risk zones will be covered focusing on slums, complete rural belt and its adjacent areas. He said that operational arrangements have been completed while 174 teams will be mobilized to vaccinate the children. Nine Zonal Supervisor and 42 Area Incharges will supervise the campaign. To facilitate the residents of campaign areas, 40 Fixed Centers have been established at different easy accessible locations, he maintained. To vaccinate the children who are travelling with parents, 14 Transit Points have been set up at different entry and exit points of Islamabad. A total of 174 teams has been constituted who will visit house to house to vaccinate 69562 target children within the municipal limits of Islamabad. He informed that CDA is providing logistic support during the campaigns and established an operation room to intensify the monitoring and arrangements of the polio campaign. The coverage of the CDA in the previous campaign has been 97% as verified by WHO’s independent monitors. The performance of CDA is proved by the fact that every child is administered with the polio drops. At the end, the Director Heath services commended the cooperation and efforts of Islamabad Police, Islamabad Traffic Police for their cooperation and contribution in eradication of polio from Islamabad. He also thanked to the representative of electronic and print media for creating awareness about the polio campaigns.
