FAISALABAD - After three days of hectic efforts, the rescue team on Monday finally succeeded in recovering the bodies of four people drowned in under-constructed underpass near Abdullahpur Chowk following a breach in the nearby Rakh Branch canal.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, after struggle of three days their team recovered three more bodies from Abdullahpur underpass site which was flooded by water of Rakh Branch Canal accumulated in the underpass. On Sunday body of a man identified as Mehmood Ahmed, 28, a resident of Abdullahpur was recovered by the rescue team.  The rescue operation was supervised by Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) Director General Rizwan Naseer. A contingent of rescuers was called from Lahore to help with the operation.

At least four people were trapped under the earth after water from Rakh Branch Canal accumulated in the underpass.

On Sunday, the families of four missing people protested against the district coordination officer accusing him of starting the rescue with a delay and “not taking interest in the operation”.

They were joined by residents of some colonies nearby at the Abdullah Chowk.
