The district administration has launched talent hunt programme to discover potential future cricket stars with the assistance of international cricketer Saeed Ajmal.

This was declared by DCO Noorul Amin Mengal while addressing a press conference along with test cricketer Saeed Ajmal at Iqbal Stadium.

DO Sports Tariq Nazir, Administrator Iqbal Stadium Riaz Anjum and others were also present on the occasion. On the occasion, the DCO presented grant of Rs0.5 million to Saeed Ajmal for his cricket academy which was set up at Agriculture University. The DCO informed that talented youth of cricket game would be selected for proper training with technical support of Saeed Ajmal. He announced the schedule for trials and told that the trial of girl under 15 and 19 players would be held on April 11, at Iqbal Stadium. Similarly the trial of under 15 and 19 youth would be held on April 12 and 13 respectively at the same venue. He assured all out support and help of the city district government for providing resources and other facilities for the training of the young cricketer.

The DCO said that additional play grounds for the cricket game would also be established throughout the district.

Internal Cricketer Saeed Ajmal thanked the DCO for the provision of grant for the cricket academy and said that young cricket players would be discovered under talent hunt programme for their quality training in the academy.

He also thanked Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif, MNA Haji Akram Ansari and UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad for providing land and other resources for the establishment of the cricket academy.
