Islamabad - Chinese Embassy has arranged a special function to start Chinese New Year celebrations here with a colourful ceremony at Pakistan National Council of the Arts which was graced by President Mamnoon Hussain along with his wife.
A large number of people from different walks of life including diplomats, business community, and government officials attended the inaugural ceremony where Chinese and Pakistani cultural heritage especially songs and dances were the main feature of the celebrations.
The Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong along with his wife Bao Jiqing received the guests on this occasion.
Milli songs in Urdu language, “Sohni Darti” and “Jeway Jeway Pakistan” presented by Chinese singer were the special attraction of the cultural programme which was presented by Chinese and Pakistani artists on this occasion.
Other main features of the cultural programme, held on Tuesday night, included dances and traditional costumes of different provinces of China, acrobatics and magic show.
President Mamnoon Hussain was presented a beautiful sketch made by Chinese artist on this occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong said that traditionally Chinese people return to their native places in the beginning of Chinese New Year but this was for the first time that Chinese New Year celebration are being held in Pakistan as people of China consider Pakistan their second home and Pakistani nation as their family.
The Chinese ambassador said the Pak-China friendship is a model for the neighbours in the region.
He said this time-tested and everlasting friendship is strengthening day by day.
He said the Pak-China strong ties, which are higher than Himalaya, deeper than oceans and sweeter than honey are benefit to the people of two countries and for the peace and development in the region.
He also said Chinese President Xi will visit Pakistan very soon on an early date.
Referring to important development project of China-Pakistan- Economic Corridor, the Chinese ambassador said it’s a back bone of friendship of two countries.
He said China had been engaged in many projects in the field of energy, development and infrastructure which will benefit the people of Pakistan.
