LAHORE - Presided over a meeting here on Wednesday, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif reviewed overall law and order situation as well as security arrangements in the province.

The IGP Punjab presented initial report regarding the incident of terrorism near Police Lines Lahore. Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that all out resources were being utilised for the protection of life and property of people while necessary steps were being taken for the improvement of law and order in the province.

“A modern and fully trained Counter Terrorism Force has been set up in the province which will play an effective and vibrant role for eliminating terrorism,” the chief minister said. He also directed that security of mosques, Imambargahs, worship places and other sensitive spots be further intensified and foolproof security arrangements be ensured for Friday congregations.

He said that the security plan should be fully implemented, adding that Safe City Project was of vital importance for the protection of life, property and honour of citizens and there was a need for working on this project expeditiously.

He said that resources would be provided on priority basis for the project. “Safe City Project will also be an example of standard and transparency like other projects of the government,” he hoped. Shahbaz Sharif said that an effective and consolidated intelligence system was of utmost importance for success in the war against terrorism; therefore, special attention should be paid for strengthening intelligence wing of Counter Terrorism Force. He said that all concerned agencies should work in a coordinated manner and further improve intelligence sharing system. He directed that the elements involved in the incident of terrorism in Police Lines Lahore be brought to justice.

He said it was necessary that those who play with human lives should be brought to their logical end.
