CCTV shows IJT gunman firing shots in PU hostel

LAHORE - The Punjab University administration has identified an armed gunman and member of Islami Jamiat Talaba involved in firing during February 16 hostel unrest in which nearly 10 students got injured.
The CCTV footage shows Sohaib Khan alias Rumi Khan, an IJT member and student of Institute of Geology, firing shots from a pistol while a security guard along with a few students try to disarm him in a failing manner.
He is seen fleeing from the scene with his weapon. Moreover, the sources said that with the help of CCTV footage, the PU administration has identified as many as 29 IJT goons involved in unrest.
They include: Usman of Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology; Hamza, Habib, Munib, Adan Malik and Moaz Akram of Punjab University Law College; Bilal, Umar, Rao Junaid, Rana Hassan, Irfan, Ibrar and Tanveer Afridi of Hailey College of Commerce; Fahad Khan, Bilal and Inzmamul Haq of Sociolgy Department; Saeed and Junnaid of Gender Studies; Kareem, Hidayatullah and Wisaal of Institute of Geology; Zeeshan of Zoology Department; Yasir Malik of Political Science Department; Hassam Gujjar and Mehboob of Philosophy Department; Hidayatullah of Institute of Biochemistry and Technology; and Usama Naseer of Institute of Education and Research.
The PU administration had instructed the departments concerned to take immediate action against the students involved in the bloody clash.
SECURITY TRAINING: Meanwhile, the Punjab University Hall Council organised a security awareness seminar at Undergraduate Study Centre, to brief the students about the measures to cope with emergency situations.
The seminar including presentations, rehearsals and practical demonstrations of explosives was arranged in collaboration with Punjab Police, Bomb Disposal Squad and Civil Defense Department.
PU Chairman Hall Council Prof Dr Abid Hussain Chaudhry, Registrar Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, DSP Muslim Town Abdullah Jan, a team of experts of Bomb Disposal Squad headed by Nazir Ahmed Kharal, wardens and superintendents of all hostels and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
The experts highlighted various security related issues and gave detailed presentations.
Mr Kharal informed the participants about explosives and how to handle such material and what to do when somebody finds such material.
Talking to media, Dr Abid Hussain Chaudhry said that security teams of each hostels had been formed consisting of hostel wardens, superintendants, employees and students.
