KARACHI - Almost a month after the killing of a young man in a controversial police encounter on Shar-e-Faisal, the police have registered a murder case against the four police personal.
According to SHO Shar-e-Faisal police, a murder case has been registered against all the four police personal, who participated in an encounter. “The case was registered on the directives of court.”
A 27-year-old Maqsood was shot dead near PAF Base on Shar-e-Faisal on January 20.
Earlier, the police party which conducted an encounter claimed that Maqsood was a criminal and killed during a shootout, however, hours after stating that a suspect Maqsood was killed by the police in a shootout, the police authorities denounced their initial statement by stating that the ‘innocent’ citizen was in fact killed due to the firing of the real suspect engaged in a shootout with the police.
The police had claimed that two suspects, Ali and Babar were also arrested while their accomplice Ibrahim managed to escape, adding that the suspects were involved in several cases of mobile snatching, who used to target people coming from the Karachi airport.
The deceased was a tailor by profession and was a lonely brother of his five sisters.
Following an incident, sisters of the victim reached the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where they refused to accept the claim of police officials.
The victim’s family also appealed the prime minister as well as chief justice of Pakistan to take a notice of the killing of their innocent brother in a fake encounter.
The family also approached the court as the police was failed to register a case against their own cops for killing an innocent man in an encounter as what the police had earlier said that the victim was killed by the firing of the criminals not by police firing.
However, the court ordered police to register a murder case against the cops who participated in an encounter.
The police have registered an FIR No. 91/18 against all the four cops, namely ASI Tariq Khan and constables
Akram Khan, Abdul Waheed and Shaukat and also arrested them and initiated further investigations. The cops arrested would be produced before a court today (Monday) for a remand.
The victim’s father Sher Muhammad said that his son was a tailor by profession and was accompanied by his friend, namely Rauf who is a rickshaw driver by profession. “My son often used to go with the Rauf on his rickshaw,” he said. “He was along with Rauf to take a passenger to the airport when police killed my son in a fake encounter.” Showing reservations on the police investigations, the ill-fated father also demanded that a judicial inquiry should be conducted over the incident and the cops should be dealt accordingly to law.
