A talky spook

General Pasha's statement to a German publication is both disturbing and offensive to all Pakistanis. This man is not a political person and yet he is giving interviews to Der Spiegel and making statements that have no support in the public or the army. The only conclusion one can draw from the statement "Terror is our enemy, not India" is that General Pasha is more concerned about his privileged way of life than the defense of the country. Clearly, Mr. Pasha sees a deal with India as the desirable outcome that would protect the luxury and opulence he is used to as a general and ISI chief. His agency, the ISI, has already withered so much that whatever we get by way of intelligence from it is hand outs of the US, our greatest enemy. -S. AMIR, Lahore, via e-mail, January 7.
