KARACHI - In an unprecedented but a kind gesture the chairman of PCB former Test cricketer Ejaz Butt personally went to the Quaid-e-Azam international airport to receive the Sri Lankan team when it arrived here Sunday late morning. Sindh sports Minister Dr. MA Shah, secretary KCCA Sirajul Islam Bukhari also accompanied the PCB chief to welcome the team which is here to play three ODI against the host country. First two ODI' s will be played at Karachi January 20 and 21 and the third at Gaddafi stadium Lahore on January 24. Fourteen members of the fifteen member team arrived directly from Dhaka. Captain Mahela Jayawerdene had arrived here earlier in the morning separately earlier from Qatar. This is first time in the long history of Pakistan cricket that the head of the cricket board personally went to receive a visiting team. In the past receiving visiting teams was the task of the local associations who would usually arrange noisy welcome to the guest. But never the head of the cricket board had ever gone to welcome a team. Presence of Ejaz Butt at the airport showed the importance that the PCB had attached to the tour and the respect that the cricket official's had for the Sri Lankan counterparts for accepting the invitation to visit Pakistan after India abandoned its schedule tour in the wake of Mumbai incidents. The Sri Lankan were garlanded and driven under tight security to the hotel.
