KARACHI - The Sindh government on has notified the constitution of a committee, headed by renowned scientist Dr Samar Mubarkmand for conducting interviews and making contractual recruitment for two coal projects in Thar Coalfield. The Sindh Coal and Energy Development Department issued a notification regarding the committee, under the supervision of the nuclear scientist who is also Chairman of the Thar Coal Mining Company. The Committee will be the sole authority to make contractual appointments in the two coal management units to be established under the Sindh Coal and Energy Development Department for Thar coalfield. The committee comprising of Dr Samar Mubarkman as Chairman, while additional chief secretary of planning and development department of Sindh government, provincial secretary coal and energy department, special secretary of finance department, one representative of SGA&C department and director general of Sindh coal authority will work as member of the body. According to experts, the coal would be converted into gas as studies show that electricity could not be produced from the Coal of Thar directly. The water in huge quantity lying under these natural coal mines in Thar. The nuclear scientist has been assigned a task to convert the coal into gas project and than to produce electricity from it, official of Sindh government said. According to reports, keeping in view of the mining of coal reserves from water could cause massive environmental problems in the area, the government has decided for gasification of coal in some areas of Thar on experimental basis. It may be noted that the Sindh government had showed strong reaction over forming of Thar Coal Mining Company under led by Dr Samar Mubarkman, under which all the authority handed over to federal government. The matter was also raised with President Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani. Finally it was decided the mining company will work under the authority and report directly to the Sindh government. When contacted, Fazullah Qureshi, former federal secretary and expert on coal and other issues of Sindh, he said that the committee under the chairmanship of Dr Samar Mubark will only work to ensure the appointments of technical persons for coal project. He said that let the committee work and make appointments on contract basis because all the responsibilities regarding the project will fall in the account of Dr Damar Mubark who heading the mining company, so he should be allowed to appoint technical persons.
