ISLAMABAD - Scores of villagers, Monday, staged a protest demonstration in front of National Press Club against the CDA alleged high-handedness demanding judicial inquiry into demolishing of their houses and incident of firing occurred the other day. Mian Aslam, Amir Jammat-e-Islami Islamabad, who led the protest, said that the land on which villages Sanyari, Sandhori and Mera Bairi were located, fell in Zone-III, and the area had already been allocated for the establishment of National Hills Park. He said that though the award of the land had already been announced by CDA in 1965 yet the Authority did not compensate the residents against their build-up property and for that reason the residents were reluctant to vacate the area. Protesters alleged that on Saturday last CDA officials along with a number of army men rushed to the area and started razing the houses of residents in a bid to clear the area. They alleged that the CDA team, which conducted the operation, violated the privacy of residents and subjected the innocent children and women to the worst form of torture in a sheer violation of basic human rights. Protesters alleged that by crossing all the limits, one of the officials ordered his men to open fire in a bid to make harass the residents. One of the resident was also carrying bullet empties, which he produced before the media men. They said that in the backdrop of the fact that masses had already been passing through a critical phase and when the Army was fighting against the militants to save county men, the action seemed a conspiracy hatched to create lack of trust between the army and the common men. The protesters also demanded of the high ups of Army to take action against the responsible to win the hearts of people. It is pertinent to note that both the activists of political parties including PPP and JI took part in the protest. The protesters having loyalties with the ruling PPP on the occasion said that their party came into power after raising slogan of Roti, Kapra aur Makan, but contrary to that in PPPs regime its own party men had been deprived of their houses. They threatened if their genuine issue was not solved on war footing, they would quit the party. They demanded of the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take action against the responsible of the incident and conduct a judicial inquiry into the issue.
