Drones attacks

The frequency of drone attacks continues to increase with the passage of time and our rulers are silent spectators without any remorse. The maximum the leaders do is to make an insignificant protest after each attack to pacify the public. The rulers definitely have a prior understanding with USA and a tacit approval for such attacks has been given. The peoples friendly PPP rulers who claim to be the party of poor people appears to be least bothered if a poor man gets killed in a drone attack or in a bomb blast. However, they raise a hue and cry if anyone from their ranks becomes the victim of lawlessness. Then his/her name is mentioned in every speech made by their leaders within the country or outside the country even at the UN forum. Now coming back to the case of people killed in drone attacks, it is a pity that no details of the persons killed have ever divulged to the public. The news always gives the number of militants killed or a name of their important leader hardly known to anyone. Our government has never bothered to find out the details of people killed and whether they were militants or normal tribesmen. It may be mentioned here that all Pathans in the northern areas carry a weapon which they consider as mandatory and is their pride. They cannot be called militants just because they have a rifle on their shoulders. When the drones kill these innocent Pathans, they retaliate (as Pathans tradition of blood for blood) in the shape of suicide bombers on military posts, outfits and convoys without caring for their own lives. Those who operate drones should not target Pathans carrying weapons but instead share their intelligence with Pakistani agencies to confirm whether they are attacking militants or normal peace loving Pathans. The government should warn the drone handlers sitting in Texas, USA that we would shoot down their drones if they attack without our clearance. In this respect, the government has to be sincere and should not have a policy of hypocracy (please refer to the Wikileaks on the subject). Our PAF has the capability of shooting down the Drones as once told by our Air Chief on the TV. MUHAMMAD AZHAR KHWAJA, Lahore
