ISLAMABAD - The Investigation Officer of National Accountability Bureau who was member of team that investigated Rental Power Project case including that of Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, was found dead in mysterious circumstances on Friday morning, leaving behind bundle of conspiracy theories surrounding his death. Police found the body of Assistant Director Kamran Faisal, one of the Investigation Officers of NAB, hanging with ceiling fan in room no.1 of Federal Lodges in Islamabad, where he has been living since last year following his transfer from Quetta to Islamabad station. Police believe deceased committed suicide allegedly by hanging himself from the ceiling fan.Following the incident, Inspector General of Islamabad Police Binyamin Khan reached the scene alongwith Chairman of National Accountability Bureau Fasih Bukhari and declared it an act of suicide without conducting thorough investigation.“It seems deceased hanged himself to the ceiling fan. Apparently, it is a case of suicide,” Binyamin Khan, told reporters who reached the scene soon after the news leaked to the media. He ,however, said, police was investigating the case properly and waiting for postmortem report of deceased that expected to be done by a team of doctors at policlinic hospital.“We have to wait for the postmortem report to sort out what actually happened with the deceased,” Binyamin told reporters. It is important to mention here that deceased has been working as Assistant Director NAB at Quetta and was transferred to Islamabad station last year. Kamran was a part of investigation team of NAB that investigated Rental Power Project scam and found involvement of 16 accused including incumbent Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf (then Federal Minister).Issuing a Press note to media on Friday, NAB officials said that Kamran committed suicide for the reason to be known yet. However, family of deceased believe Kamran did not commit suicide rather he was killed. “I’m sure, Kamran was killed. The murderer has tried to give the impression that deceased committed suicide. I have strong feelings that Kamran’s murder has some connection with investigation of Rental Power Project scam as deceased was a member of an investigation team that had probed the scam,” a member of deceased’s family told TheNation. The deceased had assisted Deputy Director of NAB’s Rawalpindi chapter, Asghar Khan, to probe Rental Power Project scam and the investigative report that they had forwarded through Director General NAB Rawalpindi Col (Retd) Subah Sadiq is said to have angered his boss. Many believe, murder of Kamran may be the first in series to save skin of all accused in Rental Power Project scam.Monitoring desk adds: Postmortem of Kamran Faisal has concluded, hospital officials said. The body was later handed over to his heirs for burial.According to hospital sources, the postmortem of the slain official lasted for two hours and the autopsy report would be handed over to police. Meanwhile, samples are also sent to laboratory for forensic report which would take 7 to 10 days.
