LAHORE - The Nation Editor-in-Chief Chairman Dr Majid Nizami on Saturday paid tribute to Ch Muhammad Hussain Chattha for his contribution to national development.
He was speaking at an event held to 13th anniversary of noted Muslim League leader at the Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehreek-i-Pakistan. Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust and the Aiwan jointly organised the sitting. Justice (r) Munir Ahmad Mughal, Prof Dr MA Sufi and a large number of people attended the sitting.
Dr Nizami said the Pakistan Ideology was the basis of Pakistan and the trust had been disseminating the information regarding purpose of creation of Pakistan.
He said the book written by Muhammad Rafique Alam has added to his knowledge about the late Muslim League leader. He said that late Hussain Chattha forbade his son to be a member of General Zia’s parliament and he (Nizami) himself decided the same.
Dr Majid Nizami said that he never accepted Punjab’s governorship and presidency of this country and preferred editorship.
Recalling past days when there was a conflict between Doultana and Mamdot, he said that his paper supported the later adding when Daultana became the Chief Minister he banned The Nawaiwaqt. He also recalled such incidents of the dictator’s regime. Pervez Musharruf also repeated the history and stopped ads to The Nawaiwaqt group but had to regret on his discriminatory act and failed to bend this paper. He said that Pakistan, an atomic power, would sustain its assistance for ever and prayed that this country become an Islamic, democratic and welfare state.
Ch Naeem Hussain Chattha said that his father followed the teachings of the Quaid-i-Azam and Allama Iqbal. He said that his father supported the democratic process and disliked dictatorship.
Sultan Ahmad Ali, Dr Ajmal Niazi, Begum Bushra Rehman, Aziz Zafar Azad, Aslam Zar Advocate, Ch Abid Hussain Chattah, Prof Dr Akhtar Sindhu, NPT Secretary Shahid Rasheed and others also spoke on the occasion. They said that some powers had been interfering in internal affairs of Pakistan and the need was of such politicians who could act like late Muhammad Hussain Chattha. They said that the late politicians struggled hard for economic equality, equal opportunities for all and rights for the agricultural tenants. Sahibzada Sultan Ahmad Ali prayed for the departed souls of Muhammad Hussain Chattha and Muhammad Rafique Alam on the occasion.
