Rawalpindi - The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) during a drive against drug mafia seized 1,250-kg hashish by intercepting four vehicles here on GT Road near Bahria Town.

The ANF also smashed a narco-gang by arresting its 8 members, informed ANF spokesman Sami Ullah Khan yesterday.

According to him, ANF Rawalpindi while carrying out an intelligence based operation on GT Road intercepted four vehicles. During search of the vehicles, 1,250-kg hashish was recovered from secret cavities of the vehicles. During the operation, the ANF also arrested 8 persons. As per preliminary reports, drug was being transported to Karachi, he said.

In another operation, the ANF detained a foreign bound passenger namely Bilal Ahmed, resident of Charsadda, at Benazir Bhutto Islamabad International Airport on suspicion of ingesting heroin-filled capsules. During interrogation, the accused confessed having engulfed heroin-filled capsules.  He intended to proceed for Abu Dhabi by PIA flight number PK-261.

The ANF in yet another operation recovered 7-kg heroin from the possession of a passenger Mubashir Hussain at BBIIAP, he said.

He informed that ANF also carried out raids against drug mafia in other parts of country and recovered 4.3 ton narcotics. The value of the seized drugs was approximately Rs 7.6 billion in the international market, he said.

He said that the ANF carried out 6 operations in Lahore, Okara, Hyderabad and Qilla Abdullah which led to recovery of 4.33 tons of drugs. The drugs included 3.75-ton opium and 8-kg heroin. The ANF also held 6 offenders involved in drug trafficking. Most of the seized drugs were intended to be smuggled abroad, he added.
