LAHORE - Progressive Panel bagged all major slots in the Lahore Press Club elections held Sunday.

Progressive and Journalist panels grabbed four seats each in the Governing Body with the third contesting Writers Panel failed to make any impact.

Backed by Progressive, Shahbaz Mian was elected President securing 981 votes. Outgoing President Arshad Ansari and Zahid Shafiq Tayyab secured 834 and 31 votes respectively. Abdul Majeed Said won Vice President seat by securing 928 votes. Naeem Hanif and Mansoor Khan secured 806 and 51 votes respectively.

Shadab Riaz was elected as Secretary by securing 996 votes, defeating Afzal Talib who managed to get 782 votes. Writers Amjad Farooq Kallu dot 49 votes. Progressive backed Zaheer Ahmed Babar was elected as Finance secretary by getting 984 votes, defeating Farzana Chaudhry (805) and Shahid Mahmood Sheikh (31). Zahid Gogi won Joint Secretary slot by securing 1002 votes. Afzaal Chaudhry got 716 and Abdul Rauf Khan 115 votes.

Rana Shahzad (608), Imran Sheikh (601), Mohsan Ali (581), Azhar Maqbool (561), Jawad Rizvi (559), Ismail Jhakar (545), Furqan Elehahi (543) and Sher Afzal Butt (513) were elected members Governing Body.

Addressing the ceremony after announcement of results, Shahbaz Mian appreciated Election Commission for holding free and fair polls. He announced two day leave and bonus of one month salary for LPC employees. He also announced restoring membership of four suspended members.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has congratulated newly elected President Shahbaz Mian and other office bearers on land slide victory in the LPC polls. He expressed the hope that the newly elected body would utilize all energies and abilities for resolving the problems of journalists.

Minister for Minorities Affairs and Human Rights Khalil Tahir Sandhu and Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din have also felicitated the newly elected office bearers of LPC.
