rawalpindi - A gang of armed robbers stormed into a pharmacy in Ghausia Chowk, Tahli Mohri in broad daylight and robbed cartons of baby milk, cash and mobile phones, sources said on Thursday.

The robbers also opened indiscriminate firing upon resistance by the pharmacy owners and staff. Reportedly, the waiter of a local restaurant sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to hospital. However, Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station Civil Lines claimed that a man was injured after being hit by pieces of the window panes that broke as result of the firing of fleeing robbers. 

According to the sources, three unidentified robbers walked in a medical store at Ghausia Chowk while brandishing pistols in their hands and made the entire staff hostage. Later, one of the armed men locked salesmen of the store in a side room and two of his accomplices started collecting cash from the cash counter in shopping bags. Rs 50,000

The sources added that one of the robbers collected six cell phones from the staffers and another climbed with wooden racks and put tins and small cartons of baby milk in a big plastic bag. They said that the robbers also beat owner of the medical store and opened firing on him for showing resistance. However, the owner remained unhurt.

The sources added that the fleeing robbers also shot and injured waiter of a nearby restaurant. The victim was identified as Waheed. A heavy contingent of police led by SP Potohar Syed Ali rushed to the crime scene and recorded statements of the eyewitnesses.

SHO PS Civil Line Yasir, when contacted, said that the police had begun investigation after filing a case against the unidentified robbers. He said that CCTV footage had also been obtained for identifying the robbers. He said that it was quite astonishing that the robbers also took dry milk tins and cartons away. He vowed to arrest the robbers very soon. “I have ordered placing special picket to keep a vigil on suspects and outlaws,” he said.

Meanwhile, local traders along with politicians staged a protest demonstration against police failure in controlling street crime in the area.
