LAHORE - A high level committee, constituted by Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, has recommended immediate regularisation of Assistant Professors, Senior Registrars, District and Tehsil Specialists working on contract basis, and a summary has been sent to Chief Minister Punjab for his approval. By virtue of this, 2000 senior doctors will benefit from the decision of regularisation of doctors recommended by the committee. The meeting presided over by the Chief Secretary Punjab Javed Mahmood at the Civil Secretariat here on Saturday, and was attended by MPAs Dr. Saeed Elahi and Dr. Asad Ashraf besides Additional Chief Secretary, Secretary Health, Secretary Regulations, Secretary Finance and Secretary Law. The meeting reviewed in detail proposals submitted by the Health Department and after long consideration, the committee has recommended immediate regularisation of all senior registrars working on contract basis on the analogy of medical officers, women medical officers and dental surgeons. The remaining vacancies will be filled in by promoting medical officers and women medical officers on the basis of seniority. The committee has also recommended filling of 50 per cent vacancies of Assistant Professors by regularising Assistant Professors working on contract basis whereas remaining 50 per cent posts will be filled in by promoting Senior Registrars working on regular basis and even then if vacancies remain available, these will be filled in by medical officers, women medical officers and demonstrators on the basis of seniority. The committee has also recommended immediate regularisation of specialists performing duties at district and tehsil level. The matter of promotion and regularisation of medical officers, women medical officers, senior registrars and assistant professors was pending for a long time. The CM had regularised medical officers and women medical officers in the first phase as a result of which more than 3700 doctors were benefited whereas in the second phase, the matter of regularisation of senior doctors has also been resolved.
