PESHAWAR - A militant of the defunct Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) was killed and his four accomplices were injured while their several hideouts were destroyed in a joint action of the Frontier Corps and Frontier Police in Acheni, an area adjacent to Khyber Agency, on Saturday. Sources said that in a fresh round of operation, both the FC and police jointly targeted a base camp and centre used by the militants to keep the abducted persons. Those who were killed and injured in the operation have been identified Lal Zamir while the injured included Gul Ghani, Alif Sher and Jan Amin. Beside, the security forces also arrested four militants during the encounter. These militants were later shifted to an unknown location for interrogation. Police and frontier corps also targeted an explosive laden vehicle in Shalam village, which exploded with big bang. Beside this two centre often being used for the kidnapping incidents were also demolished by the security forces. All the entry points leading to Peshawar from Dudzai and Mattni area have been blocked while heavy contingent of police, Frontier constabulary and Frontier corps have been deployed in there areas. The personnel of the Frontier Corps and Fronteir Constabulary were fully equipped with armoured personnel vehicle and other kinds of heavy and sophisticated weapons. It is worth-mentioning here that due the frequent infiltration of criminals, kidnappers and robbers in the garb of Mangal Bagh led Taliban have intensified their activities in and around Peshawar and two days ago an official of UNHCR was killed by the armed kidnappers when they offered resistance. Most of the criminals operating in the area have adopted the garb of Taliban with long beards and masked faces. Therefore, provincial government has decided to flush out these elements from the said localities. Agencies add: Warplanes and troops Saturday killed at least 12 militants and destroyed Taliban training centres in the restive northwest, officials said. Six militants were killed in an air strike in Orakzai tribal district, a stronghold of Taliban warlord Baitullah Mehsuds deputy Hakim Ullah. The air strike destroyed two training centres for militants in Orakzai, a paramilitary spokesman told AFP. Two security officials said at least six militants had died. Six militants of Hakim Ullah group have been killed in the air strike, a security official told AFP on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to journalists. Army has also carried out air strikes against Mehsuds hideouts in South Waziristan, with commanders vowing to hunt down the warlords militant network. Meanwhile, local Taliban commander was killed and his four accomplices wounded when suspected US drone plane slammed the house of a Taliban commander with missiles in Shaktoi area of Tehsil Ladha in South Waziristan Agency on the night between Friday and Saturday. Political administration sources told APP that the drone plane fired two missiles that landed near the house of a local Taliban Chief Ameer Abdullah Shah Mehsud, resultantly a portion of the compound collapsed. Commander Zar Jan Mehsud belonging to Kekarai tribe died on the spot while four Taliban sustained injuries of whom condition of two was stated to be critical. The injured were shifted to a private clinic in the village. According to the sources, Commander Zar Jan Mehsud was busy in ablution and a meeting was underway in the compound when the missiles struck the house. Meanwhile the political administration of South Waziristan Agency has started mass scale crackdown against the Mehsud tribe and arrested dozens of Mehsud tribesmen besides sealing their business centers in Dera Ismail Khan and Tank Districts. Political Moharrar taking action on the directives of APA Khalid Marwat, arrested tribal elders Malik Dilbar Khan Mehsud Malakshahi and put him behind the bars. ISPR adds: Security forces have killed three terrorists including their commander Abu Bakar and apprehended four suspects with arms and ammunition and destroyed hideouts in various parts of Swat and Malakand during the last 24 hours. An ISPR press release issued here on Saturday said that in Bannu one soldier embraced Shahdat while three others were injured. The press release said that during search operation at Shangla and Shakardara, security forces recovered 3 rockets of RPG-7, one 81 mortar, IEDs and ammunition, besides killing two terrorists including a terrorist commander Abu Bakar in Chamtalai. The forces conducted search operation in areas around Kanju Township and killed one terrorist and apprehended 4 suspects. The Security forces conducted search operation at Bajkata near Daggar and destroyed 7 terrorists hideouts. Terrorists fire raided at Jandola, Bannu, resultantly one soldier embraced shahadat. An IED exploded during routine search near Jani khel Fort, in result of which 3 soldiers were injured. As part of relief activities, 10,104 cash cards were distributed on July 16 amongst the IDPs of Malakand while so far 84,952 families of IDPs have been repatriated. Various Army Formations and establishments have so far desposited Rs 220 million in the Army Relief Fund. This money is being spent for procurement of relief items ie ration, medicines and cooler/fans for IDPs.
