LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the dream of putting the country on the road to development and progress can be materialised only by eliminating ignorance and illiteracy and therefore, government has given top priority to the promotion of education. The CM was addressing a meeting held to review standardised training of teachers during his visit to Directorate of Staff Development on Saturday. MNA Saira Afzal Tarar, MPAs Zeb Jaffar, Shahzadi Umerzadi Tiwana, Chairman Taskforce Raja Anwar, Secretary Schools, Head of the Directorate Aslam Kamboh as well as a number of educationists were also present on the occasion. On the occasion Saira Afzal Tarar gave a detailed briefing regarding teachers training. Shahbaz said highly trained teachers can impart quality education and training to the new generation and thus can strengthen the foundations of our educational system. He said a solid strategy should be adopted for the training of teachers and maximum trainers should be prepared who could impart quality training to the teachers in far-flung areas of the province. He said 34,000 teachers are being recruited only on merit in the province and a comprehensive programme should be chalked out for the training of these able and talented teachers. The CM said attention should also be paid to the training of young teachers along with senior ones and process of teachers training should be started from school level. He said computer labs were being set up in 4000 schools at a cost of Rs5 billion and this project would leave a far-reaching effect and would prove to be a milestone in the promotion of information technology and equipping the male and female students with modern knowledge. Meanwhile, Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated a new block of the building of Punjab Educational Endowment Fund. Chairman Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, Dr Amjad Saqib and Secretary Schools were also present on the occasion. Later talking to the staff, the CM said the staff of Punjab Educational Endowment Fund had been doing a great service by enabling the poor students accompplosh their educational activities.
